UTSA to tee off fall season on Sunday at Badger Invitational

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women’s golf team will tee off the fall season on Sunday-Tuesday, Sept. 8-10, at the Badger Invitational, which will be hosted by Wisconsin at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison.

Under the guidance of eighth-year head coach Summer Batiste, the Roadrunners will travel a lineup of Daniela Abonce, Maria Bastarrica, Sydney Bisgrove, Morgan Ellison and Olivia Williams for the three-day, 54-hole tournament.

UTSA will compete against Augusta, Delaware, FIU, Iowa, Nebraska, Rutgers, Sam Houston, St. Thomas, South Dakota State, South Florida, Wisconsin and Yale.

The field will play 18 holes each day with tee times beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday and Monday, followed by a 9 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.

The Roadrunners welcome back four regulars from last year’s lineup that helped the squad register six top-five team finishes. UTSA enjoyed a record-breaking season, establishing 15 school records in 2023-24, including low round (-15/273), low 36-hole total (557) and low 54-hole total (837).

Abonce is back for her junior campaign after capturing the 2024 American Athletic Conference Individual Championship with a 9-under-par 207 (66-72-69) and advancing to the NCAA Bryan Regional this past May. The Veracruz, Mexico, native earned all-conference accolades and finished the season with a 72.72 stroke average and three top-10 finishes.

Bastarrica returns for her second season with UTSA after appearing in 10 events in 2023-24. A native of San Sebastian, Spain, she posted a 74.93 stroke average last season, the best mark for a true freshman since Ana Gonzalez in 2017-18.

The most experienced player on the roster, Ellison is set for her senior season with more than 70 career rounds under her belt. In 2023-24, the Peachtree City, Georgia, native played in 11 tournaments and registered a 73.97 stroke average.

Williams is back for her junior campaign after appearing in 10 tournaments and registering a 74.3 stroke average in 2023-24. In fact, the Worcestershire, England, native logged a team-best 2.37 stroke improvement from the previous season.

Bisgrove is a true freshman from Calgary, Alberta, who captured the 2021-22 and 2023-24 Alberta High School Provincial Individual Championships while competing for All Saints High School, which claimed the team title during her final year.

Lauren Rios also returns for her third year at UTSA. The Coppell, Texas, native played in seven tournaments in 2022-23 but did not compete last season.

UTSA finished fourth at last year’s Badger Invitational behind individual medalist Camryn Carreon, who carded a 9-under 207 (68-69-70), and a 10th-place tie from Williams (73-74-71—218).
