UTSA to continue fall slate this week at Diane Thomason Invitational

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women’s golf team will continue its fall slate on Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at the Diane Thomason Invitational at Finkbine Golf Course (par 72/6,437 yards) in Iowa City, Iowa.

The Roadrunners will travel a lineup of Daniela Abonce, Maria Bastarrica, Sydney Bisgrove, Morgan Ellison and Olivia Williams for their third of five fall tournaments.

UTSA will line up against Bowling Green, Drake, Iowa, Missouri State, Montana State, North Dakota State, Northern Illinois, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma City, Southern Illinois, Southern Miss, UAB, UTRGV and Wisconsin.

The field will play 36 holes on Monday and the final round is scheduled for Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start slated for both days.

UTSA has played at Finkbine Golf Course once before, finishing seventh at the 2007 Hawkeye Invitational behind Janine Fellows’ ninth-place showing. Current head coach Summer Batiste was a member of that team and tied for 29th.

The Roadrunners are coming off a ninth-place finish at the Red Raider Invitational last week in Lubbock. Bastarrica led the way by grabbing a share of 26th place at 6-over 222 (71-74-77), while Abonce, Ellison and Williams all tied for 28th (223), followed by Bisgrove in 46th (227).

Abonce paces UTSA with a 73.33 stroke average through six rounds this fall. The junior from Mexico logged her top finish of the campaign when she tied for third place with a 1-over-par 217 at the Badger Invitational.

Ellison ranks second on the squad with a 74.83 scoring mark. The senior out of Georgia also recorded her best finish at the Badger Invitational, tying for 26th.

Williams owns a 75.0 stroke average after turning in her best finish (28th) and 54-hole score (223) at the Red Raider Invitational.

Bastarrica has a 75.67 average, as the sophomore from Spain is coming off her best score (222) and finish (26th) last week, while Bisgrove has a 78.17 mark after posting her low score with a 71 in the opening round of the Red Raider Invitational.
