SAN ANTONIO — Coming off a third-place finish at the Badger Invitational earlier this month, the UTSA women’s golf team will travel to Lubbock, Texas, to play in the Red Raider Invitational on Tuesday-Wednesday, Sept. 24-25, at The Rawls Course (par 72/6,877 yards).
The Roadrunners will bring a lineup of Daniela Abonce, Maria Bastarrica, Sydney Bisgrove, Morgan Ellison and Olivia Williams to compete against Abilene Christian, BYU, Campbell, Houston Christian, Kent State, Nebraska, New Mexico, New Mexico State, SMU, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas Tech, UIW, UNLV, UTRGV and UTEP.
The field will play 36 holes on Tuesday and 18 holes on Wednesday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start both days.
UTSA finished third at the season opener on Sept. 8-10 in Madison, Wisconsin, to register the 30th top-five finish under eighth-year head coach Summer Batiste.
Individually, Abonce led the way by carding a 1-over-par 217 (73-72-72) to grab a share of third place, while Ellison and Williams tied for 26th (226) and 31st (227), respectively.
The Roadrunners have played at The Rawls Course twice previously. In 2006 — the program’s second season of existence — UTSA placed 14th at the McHaney Intercollegiate on the strength of Laura Baker’s 34th-place finish. Two years later, UTSA took 12th at the McHaney/Morehead Intercollegiate behind Madison McClain’s 28th-place showing.
