UTSA hires Jim Campbell as Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Lisa Campos on Monday announced that Jim Campbell has been hired as Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance.

Campbell comes to San Antonio from the University of San Francisco, where he served as the Dons’ Senior Associate Athletics Director for Internal Operations for the past two years. He was responsible for the overall leadership and oversight of Compliance, Student Services and Academic Success, and he also served as the department’s liaison to the West Coast Conference for student-athlete support matters.

“We’re excited to welcome Jim Campbell to UTSA to lead our Athletics Compliance Department,” Campos said. “He will continue to build upon our strong foundation and culture of compliance to put our student-athletes, coaches and staff in the best possible position for success.”

Campbell was a member of San Francisco’s department for a total of six years. Prior to his tenure as Senior Associate AD, he was the Associate AD for Compliance and Student Services from 2018 to 2022 after joining the Dons as Compliance & Student Services Coordinator in May 2018.

“I am incredibly excited to join the athletic department at UTSA,” Campbell said. “This is a remarkable opportunity and I look forward to collaborating with such a talented group of student-athletes, coaches and staff members. I’m eager to bring my experience and skills to help drive the vision and goals of the university and athletic department forward.”

Before moving to San Francisco, Campbell served as Coppin State’s Compliance Coordinator and Academic Advisor for 16 months.

Campbell got his start working in intercollegiate athletics in 2015 as graduate assistant in the Alabama Athletics Compliance Office. He then was a group sales manager for the Columbus Cottonmouths of the Southern Professional Hockey League in 2016 before his stint at Coppin State.

A native of Prattville, Alabama, Campbell earned his bachelor’s degree in human performance and exercise physiology in 2014 and his master’s degree in sports management in 2015, both from Alabama.

He and his wife, Makenzie, a San Antonio native, have a daughter, Carter.
