About the Roadrunners
Led by seventh-year head coach Derek Pittman, the UTSA Roadrunners are fresh off an intense 90 minutes in Houston, but the Roadrunners came up just short in a 2-1 setback to the Cougars. Tomball, Texas freshman midfielder Bri Carrigan chipped in her first career goal in the 81st minute to keep the Roadrunners within striking distance – while Houston star Aryanna Jimison captured two goals to give UH the win. The Roadrunners took 19 shots and generated a season-high 15 on-target attempts, but 14 saves on the UH side proved to be the difference-maker. Both losses for the Roadrunners have been by a single goal; the other a thrilling 1-0 decision against Texas State in the second week. So far, UTSA is 2-0 at home and 1-0 neutral, returning to Park West in search of Pittman’s 50th UTSA coaching win.

The Roadrunners have proven to be a formidable force at home in recent years, racking up a 72.2 percent (17-5-5) win rate since the beginning of the 2021 season, including the 2024 season-opening win over Navy.

Each of UTSA’s five goals have come from different players, with Carrigan joined by Zoё May, Kameron Kloza, Olivia Alvarez and Izzy Lane in putting one in the back of the net – four scores also coming from players in their first year at UTSA.

Overall, 23 Roadrunners have taken the field after five games, and UTSA has outshot opponents, 90-46 (1.96:1), logging 50 on-target attempts for a .556 SOG percentage. UTSA ranks in the top tier among American Athletic Conference in several offensive categories: SOG% (second, 38th NCAA), shots per game (18.00, third AAC, 44th NCAA) and SOG per game (10.00, second AAC, 16th NCAA). Defensively, UTSA is fourth in the AAC with a .789 save percentage and fourth in goals-against-average at 0.80.

A Dash of International Flavor
Among the 30-player UTSA roster, seven hail from outside the United States, split between England and Canada. The Canadians include Ava Jackson (Burnaby, British Columbia), Isabella Januario (Edmonton, Alberta), Lulie MacFarlane (Vancouver, British Columbia), Zoё May (Ottawa, Ontario) and Brooke Viccars (Richmond, British Columbia) – all new to UTSA this season. From England, returning sophomore Sophie Morrin (Cheshire) is joined by Izzy Lane (London).

About Colorado State
The Rams have made a strong start to the fourth season under former Texas assistant Keeley Hagen, going 3-1-1, including a 2-1 win on Thursday at Texas State. The Rams fire off shots at a similar rate to UTSA, registering 88 on the year (17.6 per game). CSU has proven to be effective scorers so far, putting up 1.60 goals per game. Last season, the Rams went 12-6-4, coming a 1-0 decision in the final away from winning the Mountain West after defeating top-seeded San Diego State in PKs.

The Rams return junior forward Olivia Fout, who reeled off a team-leading 12 goals last season, but she hasn’t scored through the first five outings. Taking up that mantle has been senior defender/midfielder Maggie Altman, recording three goals so far. CSU also returns Mia Casey and Liv Stutzman, who registered five goals apiece last year.

Holding a 0.80 GAA with 13 saves in 2024, junior Shayna Ross is back in goal after playing every minute at keeper a year ago. In 2023, Ross had a 1.04 GAA with 3.5 saves per game.

Series history
This Sunday marks the first meeting between these teams. CSU is the first Mountain West opponent for the Roadrunners since facing Fresno State at home in 2011.

UP NEXT: The Roadrunners will see their first single-game week of the year, but their travels will take them outside of Texas for the first time. UTSA will face Central Arkansas in Conway next Sunday, Sept. 8, with a 1 p.m. kickoff.
