MOBILE, Ala. — UTSA seniors Kendrick Blackshire, Oscar Cardenas, De’Corian “JT” Clark, Joe Evans and Donyai Taylor have landed on the Reese’s Senior Bowl Watch List, which was unveiled on Wednesday morning.
This marks the second postseason all-star game watch list selection for Cardenas, Clark and Evans, as all three were chosen in July for the Shrine Bowl 1000 by the East-West Shrine Bowl.
The 2025 Reese’s Senior Bowl is scheduled for Feb. 1 in Mobile and it will be televised live on NFL Network. The complete watch list can be found at https://www.seniorbowl.com/watchlist/.
Blackshire, a transfer inside linebacker who starred at Duncanville High School, is in his first season with UTSA after playing in 24 games over the past three seasons at Alabama. He tallied 25 total tackles, 13 solo stops, two tackles for loss, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery as a member of the Crimson Tide.
Cardenas, a tight end out of San Antonio Brandeis High School, is a two-time all-conference performer for the Roadrunners. Last season, the John Mackey Award Watch List member caught 32 passes for 280 yards and two touchdowns en route to being named to the All-American Athletic Conference Third Team. A member of the program since 2019, he has 82 receptions for 997 yards and six TDs in 57 career games.
Clark, a wide receiver from Fort Worth O.D. Wyatt High School, was a second-team all-league performer two years ago after catching 51 passes for 741 yards and eight touchdowns to help UTSA capture the 2022 Conference USA Championship. He set the program’s single-game receiving yardage record that season with 217 and three TDs on nine receptions against Texas Southern. He will enter the 2024 campaign with 1,559 yards and 16 touchdowns on 112 catches as a Roadrunner.
Evans, a senior defensive lineman from Haynesville, Louisiana, has collected all-conference honors in each of his first two seasons with the Roadrunners. Also a member of this year’s Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List, earned third-team all-league recognition last fall after posting 18 total tackles, 11 unassisted stops, 2.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and a safety. The LSU transfer boasts 36 tackles, six TFLs and 3.5 sacks in 24 games as a Roadrunner.
Taylor, a senior money backer from Shiner, Texas, earned second-team all-conference accolades last fall after recording 46 total tackles, 31 solo stops, seven tackles for loss, two sacks, six quarterback hurries, two pass breakups, one interception, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery. For his career, he has logged 102 tackles, 58 unassisted stops, 11 TFLs, three sacks, four PBUs and a pair of interceptions.
The Roadrunners, who are picked to finish second in the AAC Preseason Media Poll, will kick off the 2024 season on Saturday, Aug. 31, when they host Kennesaw State at 2:30 p.m. at the Alamodome.
