Clark selected for Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List

ATLANTA — UTSA senior wide receiver De’Corian “JT” Clark has been named to the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, which was unveiled on Thursday by the Wuerffel Foundation.

Clark is one of a record 111 nominees representing players from college football’s Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). The Fort Worth native was a member of the watch list for both the Wuerffel Trophy and Allstate Good Works Team in 2023.

Clark has been heavily involved in community service during his time at UTSA. A founding member of Black Athletes Striving for Excellence (BASE), he serves as the organization’s public relations chair and has helped host numerous events through his involvement. He has worked with the UTSA Black Student Union and was a guest speaker for “Untangling the Truth: A Discussion on Black Hair” in 2023. He also has volunteered his time with Roadrunner Days, UTSA Giving Day, UTSA Move-In and ComicCon and Car Show. Clark, who earned his bachelor’s degree in May, also has given back to the San Antonio Community by helping host youth football camps, volunteering with Be a Champion Inc. to provide healthy meals and educational services to children, as well as speaking at local elementary schools and to local youth sports leagues.

On the field, Clark was a second-team All-Conference USA selection in 2022 after catching 51 passes for 741 yards and eight touchdowns despite missing the last five games due to an injury. The O.D. Wyatt High School product averaged 82.3 receiving yards per game and 14.5 yards per catch, and he set the UTSA single-game record for receiving yards with 217 and tied the program standard for receiving TDs with three against Texas Southern. He will enter the 2024 campaign with 112 receptions for 1,559 yards and 16 touchdowns as a Roadrunner.

College football’s premier award for community service and one of the most meaningful awards in collegiate sports, The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy is named after Danny Wuerffel, the 1996 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback from the University of Florida who parlayed his success on the football field into a lifetime of service. The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy embodies Wuerffel’s commitment to being a humanitarian, while honoring student-athletes who are inspired to serve others and make positive impacts on society. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Trophy’s founding, and the Foundation will recognize the first nineteen recipients throughout the fall season.

"I am deeply honored to see such outstanding individuals nominated for this year's Allstate Wuerffel Trophy,” said Wuerffel. “Their commitment to serving others and making a positive impact in their communities is truly inspiring. Throughout my life and career, I have always believed in the importance of putting others before yourself and striving to make a difference. These nominees exemplify those values, and I am proud to celebrate their dedication to humanitarian efforts and selfless service."

Announced recently, the Wuerffel Foundation partnered with Allstate to unify college football’s highest community service honors. Eleven of the watch list nominees will be named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and will be Allstate Wuerffel Trophy semifinalists.

The 2024 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy finalists and recipient will be selected by an illustrious national voting committee, including a fan vote component, and announced on ESPN’s Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 12.  The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Presentation Gala will take place Feb. 1, 2025, at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.

Sixteen NCFAA members are unveiling preseason watch lists over a 12-day period as the association spearheads a coordinated effort to promote each award’s preseason candidates.
