SAN ANTONIO – On Friday, UTSA softball coach Vann Stuedeman officially announced the signing of Makayla Madrid, who heads to the Alamo City after redshirting her freshman season at Texas Tech.

Madrid had a stellar career at Steele High School, picking up a trio of First-Team All-District honors as a catcher, along with 2023 27-6A District MVP honors and an All-State nod in 2021. She maintained a .404 batting average for the Knights, posting a 1.294 OPS in the process. She walloped 20 home runs with 75 RBIs over 89 games for the squad.
She is the daughter of Gina and Marty Madrid and has two siblings, Steven Madrid and Elida Rodriguez. At UTSA, she will study human resources with a minor in business administration, with the goal of becoming a human resource specialist.
Madrid becomes the 12th member of the singing class, joining Crislyne Moreno, Taylor Meier, Jett Harrell, Katia Reyes, Madison Hornback, Ava Eldridge, Reagan Stoudt, Sabrina Wick, Skylar Rucker, Angelica Ortiz, and Kaylie Olivarez.
