UTSA earns No. 2 seed in first AAC Tournament

CLEARWATER, Fla. — UTSA has earned the No. 2 seed in its first American Athletic Conference Championship appearance and will face No. 7 seed Charlotte at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, May 21, at BayCare Ballpark in Boca Raton, Fla.

 

UTSA finished second in the AAC standings and earned the second seed with a 17-10 conference record. No. 13 East Carolina earned the top seed, after claiming the regular season title with a 19-8 mark.

 

The Roadrunners boast a 32-22 overall record and they will open the double-elimination tournament against the 49ers, who finished the regular season 23-32 overall and 12-15 in league play. The winner will advance to face the winner of No. 3 Tulane and No. 6 Florida Atlantic on Thursday.

 

The tournament will be played in a double-elimination format through the semifinal round. The championship final is a winner-take-all matchup Sunday, May 26, which will determine The American’s automatic entrant to the NCAA Championship.

The Roadrunners are seeking their fourth all-time conference tournament crown and their first since winning the Western Athletic Conference Tournament in 2013. UTSA also won the Southland Conference Tournaments in 1994 and 2005.
