BRYAN, Texas — Hunter Bott is in sixth place and the UTSA men’s golf team also has sole possession of sixth after the opening day of The Aggie Invitational, which got underway Saturday at Traditions Club (par 72/7,227 yards).
The Roadrunners carded rounds of 292 and 309 for a 601, three shots ahead of American Athletic Conference foe Memphis and four in front of No. 30 LSU. UTSA trails 46th-ranked Louisville by only one stroke in the 12-team field led by No. 44 Baylor (582), which is followed closely by host and 23rd-ranked Texas A&M (594).
Bott posted a 1-over-par 145, good for sixth in the 76-man field and only two shots off the pace of 1-under set by Baylor’s Zach Heffernan. The senior from Montgomery opened his weekend with a 3-under-par 69, writing down five birdies, including back-to-back on Nos. 13-14. He settled for a 76 in the afternoon on the strength of two more birdies.
Walker Franklin has a share of 19th place at 7-over 151. The junior transfer recorded a 74 in the morning that featured four birdies, two on each side. He posted a 77 in the second round that was highlighted by a three on the 439-yard, par-4 14th hole.
Brock Blais and Jack Wehman are part of a seven-way tie for 38th. Blais posted rounds of 75 and 79, while Wehman turned in a pair of 77s.
Playing an individual, Bryson Thurston also has a share of 38th after matching Wehman with two 77s on Saturday.
David Harrison rounds out the UTSA lineup in a tie for 45th after registering a 74-81—155.
The final round is set for Sunday and the Roadrunners will tee off starting at 7:40 a.m.
