‘Runners headed to Tulsa to face Golden Hurricane

UTSA will meet Tulsa in a three-game American Athletic Conference series at the Collins Family Softball Complex

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA softball team will make the trek to Tulsa, Oklahoma, for a three-game American Athletic Conference series against Tulsa spanning Friday through Sunday at the Collins Family Softball Complex.

Game One between the Roadrunners (13-37, 3-18 The American) and the Golden Hurricane (27-18, 12-9 The American) will take place on Friday at 5 p.m., ahead of game two on Saturday at 1 p.m. and game three on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The ‘Runners are fresh off a 7-6 midweek victory over UIW that saw senior Erykah Guerrero, redshirt freshman Madi Hays, junior Jaylen Prichard, and redshirt freshman Kylie Forney all hit home runs. Additionally, Prichard provided the final blow and paced the squad with a 3-for-4 evening, while junior Sophie Campbell joined her in logging multiple hits.

UTSA remains 28th nationally with 159 walks on the season, while senior Taylor Jensen has climbed into 18th, catching 12 base runners stealing. Classmate Jamie Gilbert has twirled 12 complete games to pace the AAC. She also is fifth in the AAC in games started (21), fifth in innings pitched (132.0), fifth in pitching appearances (33), and sixth in strikeouts (94). Also performing well in the circle, freshman Iliana Saucedo is fourth with a 6.9 K/7 ratio, as junior Sophie Campbell and classmate Camryn Robillard are tied for third with three sacrifice flies on the season.

Tulsa, meanwhile, is looking to snap a four-game skid, suffering a loss to No. 2 Oklahoma and getting swept by Charlotte last week. They are currently tied with Wichita State and UAB for fourth in The American standings and boast a stellar 13-3 record at home.

The Golden Hurricane excels at the plate, with a .309 AVG slotting them second in the league and 38th in the NCAA. They top the league with 1.40 stolen bases per game, while 0.42 triples each time out place them third in the nation. Twenty-three doubles are 21st in the country, and Tulsa has excelled defensively, using a .974 fielding percentage to climb into 22nd.

Five squad members maintain batting averages over .300, including Mackenzie Denson, who paces the team at .395. Kailyn Bearpaw has posted five home runs, and Claira Skaggs boasts 34 RBIs to lead the Golden Hurricane.

In the circle, Kylee Nash owns a 3.00 ERA, to go with a 9-3 record and three saves. Maura Moore has gone 10-6, Anneca Anderson 7-5, while Alexa Hopkins has compiled a 1-4 mark on the season.
