SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA softball team suffered a 10-0 run rule defeat at the hands of No. 25 Texas State on Wednesday and will look to bounce back with a three-game American Athletic Conference series on the docket against Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, Florida.
The Roadrunners (12-34. 3-15 The American) fell to the Bobcats (34-12, 10-5 Sun Belt) as senior Jamie Gilbert (5-13) was tagged with the loss and Jessica Mullins (23-6) earned the win. Additionally, junior Lindsey Davis, sophomore Madison Lenton, and freshman Brenna Jahn all logged hits for UTSA in the effort.
TXST struck first in the top of the second, using a two-run home run to take an early lead. They threatened again in the third before Gilbert clamped down and stranded the bases loaded.
Not to be deterred, the Bobcats opened the top of the fourth with a leadoff triple and a single, resulting in a 3-0 score. This was followed by a seven-run top of the sixth, which propelled Texas State to the 10-0 win.
Meanwhile, the Owls (33-12, 13-5 The American) narrowly dropped a 1-0 midweek matchup to UCF but remain on top of the conference standings entering the weekend.
FAU remains high on the NCAA leader board in several statistical categories, including doubles (75) and fielding percentage (.979) which each sit seventh, while the Owls are fifth in walks (181). They are the highest-scoring team in America, averaging 6.11 runs per game, and a .411 OBP also leads the league.
Individually, Ainsley Lambert ranks sixth in the country with six saves, Kiley Channell is fifth with 18 doubles, and Kamryn Jackson is 10th, getting plunked 14 times on the season.
Jesiana Mora leads Florida Athletic with a .406 AVG, representing the 15th toughest player to strike out nationally. Trinity Schlotterbeck boasts a squad-high nine home runs, as she Jackson and Mora are all tied with 37 RBIs.
