IRVING, Texas – The bracket is set for the American Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Championships, officials from the conference office announced late on Monday, selecting UTSA (10-9) as the No. 7 seed. The Roadrunners will open their inaugural AAC tournament in the first round matchups on Thursday, April 18, facing off against No. 10 Tulane (7-14) at 10 a.m. at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
The Roadrunners closed the regular season on Sunday with a 4-3 setback against No. 53 Rice, which has the fourth seed in this week’s tournaments. UTSA has reached double-digit victories for the fourth consecutive year under fifth-year head coach Sergey Avdeyev. The Roadrunners have a pair of ranked victories under their belts against very strong opposition this season, and UTSA entered the rankings briefly in the final two weeks of the regular season and have reentered the national rankings heading into the tournament at No. 73.
Seeds for the championships were determined by the ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings through matches of Monday, April 15. The men’s championship begins with Thursday’s four first-round matches and continues through the Sunday, April 21, final. The winner of the AAC men’s championship will earn The American’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Tennis Championships.
Memphis earned the No. 1 seed for the second consecutive season after the Tigers went 16-5. SMU, the No. 2 seed, has won the last two American titles, including the 2022 championship, which was held at Tulsa. The Mustangs will face the winner between Tulane and UTSA in Friday's quarterfinals.
