SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women’s tennis team closes out its regular season at home, hosting the Lamar Cardinals on Wednesday at 12 p.m. The Roadrunners will also recognize four student-athletes for Senior Day prior to the match.
The Roadrunners hold a 15-6 record, after picking up a pair of home wins last weekend against UTEP (4-1) on April 6 and New Mexico State (5-2) on April 7. UTSA is on a five-match winning streak and remains undefeated at home with an 8-0 record. Freshman Ekua Youri leads the team in singles action with 12 wins so far, while Aleksandra Zlatarova is closely behind with 11 and Fatima Gutierrez has collected 10 victories. Zlatarova and Cassie McLay have teamed up to put together an impressive 12-1 doubles record. The team holds a combined 36-14 doubles record and a 61-35 singles record.
Lamar holds a 9-13 overall record this season, following a 7-0 loss to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on April 8. The Cardinals hold a 58-59 singles record and 20-35 doubles record. Natalia Turczuk leads the team with a perfect 14-0 singles record, playing mostly at the fifth court. Leah Kuruvilla and Marika Mueller have each picked up a team-best seven doubles victories. Since the 1993 season, the Roadrunners hold an 18-10 advantage over the Cardinals in the all-time series, winning the last two matches.
Four student-athletes will be celebrated for Senior Day prior to the match at approximately 11:45 a.m., including three seniors (Eva Beyebach, Magda Tuells and Aleksandra Zlatarova) and one fifth year (Cassie McLay).
