SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women's basketball team will wrap up the regular season on Tuesday as they invite Rice into the Convocation Center for a 6:30 p.m. showdown. The contest will feature an Orange Out theme, and the inaugural Rowdy Dunk Contest will take place at halftime, with a trio of Roadrunner football players battling it out in front of three celebrity guest judges.
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+, with Karl Schoening providing play-by-play alongside Carlie Heineman. Neal Raphael will deliver the radio call in the greater San Antonio area on The Bull 93.3 FM and worldwide on the iHeartRadio app.
The Roadrunners (15-13, 9-8 The American) are fresh off a 68-61 road victory over Wichita State that allowed them to cement a winning regular season for the first time since the 2014-15 team went 16-14 before failing in the opening round of the C-USA tournament.
Several 'Runners performed well in the Sunflower State, including redshirt junior Elyssa Coleman, who logged a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Despite coming off the bench, sophomore Siena Guttadauro scored a career-high 13 points off four triples and a free throw, while senior Jordyn Jenkins charted a team-high 17.
UTSA will enter the game leading The American in several statistics, including rebound per game where a 45.4 average sits sixth nationally. The 'Runners also collect 16.3 offensive rebounds per game, which ranks seventh, and a plus-9.5 rebound margin is the eighth-most in the NCAA. The team also manages 29.1 defensive rebounds each time out to slot them 21st, while a 36.3% field goal defense is 20th and 4.7 blocks per game is 31st.
Redshirt junior Elyssa Coleman has played a crucial role in the team's defensive success, swatting 1.59 blocks per game for the second-most in the AAC. She also ranks 10th with 7.9 rebounds per game, and freshman Idara Udo ranks fourth, collecting 3.7 offensive boards per game. Senior Kyra White sits second with 4.7 assists per game and is also second, playing 34.7 minutes per game.
The Owls (15-13, 9-8 The American) have fallen in their last four but remain in a six-way tie with UTSA for fourth in the conference.
They lead the AAC and rank 21st nationally with 26.0 bench points per game, and Destiny Jackson boasts a 1.6 assist/turnover ratio for the fifth-most in the league. She also connects on 84.9% of her free throws for the best in The American, while Dominique Ennis has drained 175 triples for the fifth-highest mark in the conference.
