Freshman Iliana Saucedo was named Pitcher of the Week by the American Athletic Conference

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA softball team will compete at Roadrunner Field for the first time in the 2024 season on Tuesday, as they invite Abilene Christian to the Alamo City for a midweek tilt.

The Roadrunners (7-14, 0-0 The American) are coming off a 3-2 weekend at the 5th Annual Boerner Invitational, which saw UTSA pick up wins over UIW, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, and Grambling State. As a part of the festivities, freshman Iliana Saucedo was named Pitcher of the Week after picking up a pair of wins and fanning 18 across 13.0 innings of work.

Fellow newcomer Zelinda Camacho also earned a win for UTSA, as freshman Brenna Jahn led the way at the dish, working a .385 AVG to go with a 1.346 OPS. She went 5-for-13 with two home runs, three walks, and five RBIs across the week. Also performing well, senior Taylor Jensen hit .455, walked twice, and drove in three runs.

The Wildcats (7-12. 0-0 WAC) have had a rough time as of late, suffering a sweep at the hands of Sam Houston last time out. Despite their record, ACU had dropped 36 doubles across the campaign, the 10th-most in the NCAA.

Kaydee Bennett has played a significant role for the Wildcats, smashing three home runs and six doubles en route to a .456 AVG. Her 26 hits lead the team, and she also owns an OPS of 1.225. In the circle, Talia Nielsen, Ella Beeman, and Lina Russo all have logged wins, and the staff holds an ERA of 4.50.
