UTSA to travel to Sunshine State for UNF Collegiate

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women’s golf team will travel to Florida to play in the UNF Collegiate on Monday-Tuesday, March 4-5, at Jacksonville Golf & Country Club (par 72/6,020 yards).

The Roadrunners will travel a lineup of Camryn Carreon, Daniela Abonce, Morgan Ellison, Olivia Williams and Maria Bastarrica. That quintet will compete against golfers from host Arkansas State, Charlotte, Chattanooga, Daytona State College, East Tennessee State, Eastern Kentucky, Iowa, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, Memphis, New Mexico State, North Florida, Old Dominion, Sam Houston, South Alabama, ULM, Western Kentucky and Xavier.

The field will play 36 holes on Monday and the final round is slated for Tuesday.

This will mark UTSA first appearance in the UNF Collegiate and their second trip of the spring to the Sunshine State.

The Roadrunners are coming off a 10th-place tie at the Chevron Collegiate last week at the Golf Club of Houston. UTSA carded a 3-under-par 861 (289-283-289) to share 10th with No. 41 North Texas and UNLV in a field that included nine nationally ranked teams. Individually, Carreon and Daniela Abonce led the way by tying for 25th at 4-under 212.

Carreon, who is 63rd in the latest NCAA Division I individual rankings, paces UTSA with a 70.43 stroke average and a trio of top-10 finishes, including a pair of victories last fall. She has posted 15 par-or-better scorecards — including a dozen sub-70 scores — in 21 total rounds this season.

Abonce stands second on the squad with a 73.05 scoring mark and two top-25 showings. The sophomore from Mexico has registered 10 par-or-better rounds with four below 70, and her to finish is a runner-up showing after she fired a 12-under 204 (68-68-68) at the Sam Golden Invitational.

Williams ranks third among Roadrunners with a 73.56 average and eight par-or-better scorecards in 18 rounds during her sophomore campaign. She logged her best finish when she tied for 10th at the Badger Invitational with a 218 (73-74-71).

Ellison owns a 73.9 stroke average and a pair of top 15s. The junior from Georgia turned in her top finish of 13th after firing a 7-under 209 (68-70-71) at the Sam Golden Invitational.

Bastarrica has recorded a 74.76 scoring average and a top finish of 25th during her true freshman season.
