SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA softball team will welcome Lamar into Roadrunner Field on Tuesday, with nonconference action set for 4 p.m. Additionally, the contest will serve as the 'Runners annual Title IX game.
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+, with Karl Schoening providing play-by-play alongside Cat Osterman.
The Roadrunners (9-24, 1-8 The American) had a rough go last time out, suffering a trio of run-rule defeats at the hands of Wichita State.
Senior Taylor Jensen enters the contest leading The American in base runners caught stealing, and sophomore Sophie Campbell's three sacrifice flies are tied for the most in the AAC. Senior Jamie Gilbert, meanwhile, has fanned 65, the fifth-highest strikeout total in the league, and she's also fifth with 79.0 innings pitched. Freshman Iliana Saucedo boasts a 7.2 K/7 that ranks fourth, and Camryn Robillard's team-leading six home runs are seventh.
The Cardinals (21-10, 8-1 Southland) have been stellar as of late, winning their last five and dropping just one conference contest on the year. They'll head to the Alamo City after sweeping Texas A&M-Commerce, with their lone league loss coming on March 15 against Northwestern State.
Four Cardinals maintain batting averages over the .300 threshold, with Shenita Tucker pacing the squad at .366. She's also dented the plate 26 times, and her 22 stolen bases represent the fourth-most in the NCAA. Veronica Harrison has also played a significant role in Lamar's success, topping the team with 21 RBIs.
The Cardinal bullpen has been terrific across the campaign, with a staff ERA of 2.85. Emma Wardlaw has compiled a 9-2 record with a 1.73 ERA, and Karyana Mitchell has gone 9-1, maintaining a .99 WHIP.
