'Runners fall to Shockers in Saturday series finale

Wichita State run-ruled UTSA, 12-0

WICHITA, Kan. — The UTSA softball team was defeated via the run rule on Saturday, as Wichita State worked a 12-0 victory in an American Athletic Conference series finale at Watkins Stadium.

The Roadrunners (9-24, 1-8 The American) fell to the Shockers (16-10, 7-2 The American) as freshman Iliana Saucedo (3-4) was pegged with the loss, and Lauren Howell (3-1) earned the win. Additionally, senior Taylor Jensen recorded the 'Runners lone hit of the afternoon, while sophomore Sophie Campbell and junior Jaylen Prichard recorded walks.

Back-to-back home runs opened the bottom of the first, delivering a two-run Shocker lead. They then added another in the second with a solo shot.

CC Wong recorded her second home run in the third, and another long ball in the inning resulted in a 5-0 WSU edge.

Wong then hit a grand slam ahead of a second Bailey Urban home run that gave the Shockers a 12-0 advantage in the bottom of the fourth and represented the game's final run.

UTSA will now turn its attention toward a Tuesday matchup at 5:30 p.m. against Lamar at Roadrunner Field before hosting Memphis in a three-game AAC series beginning on Thursday.
