SAN ANTONIO – Three-time Olympian Cat Osterman highlights UTSA’s primary ESPN+ broadcast teams for baseball and softball, announced Friday. All home games for both sports will air live on ESPN+.
Karl Schoening and Mike Capps will handle the call of UTSA baseball games, while Neal Raphael and Osterman will comprise the broadcast team for UTSA softball.
Schoening serves as the primary television play-by-play announcer for UTSA Athletics, also handling the call of men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball and soccer. He also is a member of the broadcast team for the Austin Spurs of the NBA G-League and University of Incarnate Word football.
Capps has been the Director of Broadcasting and play-by-play announcer for the Round Rock Express, the AAA affiliate of the Texas Rangers since 2000. He has also been a part of the UTSA baseball broadcast team in past seasons.
Raphael is in his second season as the radio play-by-play voice of the UTSA women’s basketball program. He has also called collegiate action for Houston Christian University, the University of Houston, UTEP and UT Permian Basin. Additionally, he was a broadcaster for the Seattle Storm of the WNBA from 2011-14.
Osterman is one of the most decorated softball players in the history of the sport. She is a former three-time collegiate National Player of the Year and four-time All-American at the University of Texas. Osterman helped lead the Longhorns to the Women’s College World Series in 2003, 2005 and 2006. She became the only softball player to win USA Softball’s National Player of the Year honors three times. Osterman led the United States Women’s National Team to the gold medal at the 2004 Olympic Games and the silver medal at the 2008 and 2020 Olympic Games. She served as an assistant coach at Texas State from 2015-20.
