Coleman logs double-double as 'Runners fall to Green Wave

The redshirt junior delivered a 21-point, 12-rebound performance

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women's basketball team suffered a 75-64 setback at the hands of Tulane on Sunday in American Athletic Conference action inside the Convocation Center. Despite the result, redshirt junior Elyssa Coleman logged her third double-double of the year, scoring 21 points and collecting 12 rebounds.

The Roadrunners (11-10, 5-5 The American) fell to the Green Wave (10-11, 3-7 The American), as Colemans 21 points came at a 47.4% clip. Joining her in posting double-digit scoring figures, freshman Aysia Proctor dropped 14, including three triples, while sophomore Sidney Love scored 10.

UTSA started off hot, using buckets by freshman Idara Udo and Coleman as well as a Proctor triple to claim a 7-0 advantage in the first. The Green Wave got on the board with a three-pointer of their own, to which sophomore Siena Guttadauro responded from downtown. From there, Tulane sparked an 8-0 run to take an 11-10 edge into the second quarter.

The Green Wave sunk multiple three-pointers to collect a 19-12 lead early in the second stanza before back-to-back makes by Proctor and Love kept UTSA within striking distance. After exchanging blows, UTSA scored five straight with a transition layup by sophomore Madison Cockrell seeing a 24-21 score line, still favoring Tulane. The Green Wave then polished off the half on a 12-2 run for a 36-23 advantage heading into the locker room.

White and Proctor connected from beyond the arc to kick-start the third, but Tulane quickly responded with back-to-back treys that began an eight-point swing. Coleman knocked down consecutive shots, and Guttadauro sunk a triple, working a 44-36 score line. Tulane answered, building a 56-38 lead at the conclusion of the frame.

The squads matched each other for the majority of the final quarter before a Proctor three-pointer promoted a 9-0 UTSA run that saw a 69-60 score with a minute remaining. However, the comeback effort fell short as Tulane sunk their free throws, en route to a 75-64 victory.

UTSA will be back in action next Sunday, with a 1 p.m. matchup against UAB at the Convo for the squad's annual Cancer Awareness game.
