SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women's basketball team will visit Memphis, Tennessee on Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. American Athletic Conference matchup on the docket against the Tigers inside Elma Roane Fieldhouse.
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+, with Greg Gaston providing play-by-play alongside Trey Draper. Neal Raphael will deliver the radio call in the greater San Antonio area on The Bull 93.3 FM and worldwide on the iHeartRadio app.
The Roadrunners (14-12, 8-6 The American) split across last week, first falling to Temple, 56-48, before besting Florida Atlantic, 76-60 in what represented UTSA's Senior Day.
Senior Kyra White and freshman Idara Udo were dominant against FAU, as White tied her career-best with 23 points, and Udo recorded a double-double, scoring 13 while collecting 13 rebounds. Getting in on the action, newcomer Aysia Proctor charted 16 points, and redshirt junior Elyssa Coleman snagged 11 boards.
UTSA leads The American in multiple statistics, including rebounds per game, where a 46.7 average ranks sixth nationally. The 'Runners also sit fifth in offensive rebounds per game with 16.5 and are eighth in rebound margin, recording 10.3 more boards than their opponent. Rounding things out, UTSA swats 4.8 blocks per game for the 26th-highest total in the NCAA, a 36.4% field goal defense sits 21st, and 29.2 defensive rebounds per game are 22nd.
Coleman has played a major role in the 'Runners defensive success, as she averages 1.60 blocks per game for the second-most in the AAC. She also hauls in 7.9 rpg for the 10th-highest total in the league, and Udo ranks fourth with 3.7 offensive rebounds per game. Also on the leader board, White's 4.8 assists per game are second in the conference, her 1.53 assist/turnover ratio is fifth, and she plays 34.5 minutes a game, slotting her second.
The Tigers (11-15, 7-8 The American) enter the contest riding a three-game winning streak, picking up victories over East Carolina, Rice, and Tulane recently. They currently are 11th in The American standings, and with a win, would move out of the bottom four and be one step closer to receiving a bye in the AAC Championship Tournament.
Memphis represents the only program in the league with more offensive rebounds per game than UTSA, as the Tigers collect 17.0, the fourth-most in the nation. An excellent defensive team, the squad also sits second in the conference, swiping 10.8 steals per game, and 20.9 forced turnovers are 15th across the NCAA.
Alasia Smith and Madison Griggs have been superb for the Tigers, as Smith paces the AAC with 3.9 offensive rebounds per game, while Griggs plays 36.9 minutes for the most in the league and has shot 220 three-point attempts for the ninth-highest total nationally. Griggs posts 16.5 ppg, and Smith tops the squad with 9.1 rpg and 34 blocks on the year.
