· Coming in to pinch hit in the sixth, catcher Lorenzo Morresi played outside of his usual position, seeing time at both first base and right field.
· Sophomore starting pitcher Zach Royse struck out four Bluejays in four innings pitched.
· UTSA drops to a 3-4 record, while Creighton improves to a 4-0 record.
BREAKDOWN OF THE GAME
The Roadrunners got momentum rolling early with four baserunners in the first two innings but were unable to convert on the opportunities.
Meanwhile on the mound, Royse kept the Bluejays scoreless in the first two frames while only allowing a pair of baserunners and striking out two.
Creighton got on the board first with a trio of runs in the bottom of the third to take a 3-0 advantage.
Despite a single to start the frame, Royse forced another scoreless frame in the fourth while also striking out another Bluejay.
In the top of the fifth, the Roadrunners got something going again. With two quick outs on the board, Lytle revived the lineup with a double down the right field line. Hill then hit a single up the middle to drive in Lytle and make the score 3-1, still in favor of Creighton.
Coming in to relieve Royse, Conor Myles started the bottom of the frame with a quick strikeout. A Bluejay got on base and made it all the way to third because of a few wild pitches, but a lineout and flyout helped UTSA escape with a clean inning.
Myles continued to keep Creighton off the board in the sixth and seventh innings, allowing two baserunners but never letting them advance past second base. In the top of those frames, the Roadrunners saw a couple of baserunners but couldn’t do much with them.
The Bluejays added another run in the bottom of the eight to extend their lead to 4-1.
Morresi hit a double to begin the ninth frame, but the Bluejays’ Mason Koch used seven pitches to get the three outs needed to lead Creighton to a 4-1 win over UTSA.
