Roadrunners to fly to Puerto Rico for Dorado Beach Collegiate

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men’s golf team will fly to Puerto Rico to compete in the Dorado Beach Collegiate, hosted by UNC Greensboro on Sunday-Tuesday, Feb. 25-27, at TPC Dorado Beach’s Sugarcane Course (par 72/7,112 yards).

The Roadrunners will travel a lineup of Hunter Bott, David Harrison, Jack Wehman, Brock Blais and Walker Franklin, while Bryson Thurston will play as an individual. This will mark the program’s first visit to Puerto Rico.

UTSA will line up against Army, Bryant, Butler, Denver, George Mason, Illinois State, Kent State, Maryland, Old Dominion, Southern Miss, ULM, No. 42 UNCG, Valparaiso and Winthrop. The field will play 18 holes each day.

The Roadrunners are riding momentum from their top finish of the 2023-24 campaign. Led by a top-10 showing from Wehman, UTSA placed third at the Bentwater Invitational last week in Montgomery, Texas. Wehman tied for eighth with a 4-over-par 217 (72-74-71), matching his top collegiate finish in the process, while Bott was one shot behind in a tie for 15th with a 218 (74-73-71).

Bott paces UTSA with a 71.38 stroke average and four top-25 finishes, including a pair of top 10s. The senior from Montgomery was the runner-up at The Clerico after firing an 8-under 202 (68-68-66) last October and he also scored a ninth-place tie at The Carolina Cup with a 219 (74-67-78).

Harrison stands second on the squad with a 73.38 scoring mark to go with a pair of top 20s, highlighted by a tie for 14th at The Carolina Cup after the senior from Trophy Club, Texas, carded a 221 (74-74-73).

Wehman’s 73.67 average ranks third among Roadrunners, while Blais has logged a 74.0 figure and two top-25 showings in his true freshman campaign.
