‘Runners fall to Jayhawks on Day Two of Texas A&M Invitational

Kansas took down UTSA, 9-0, at Davis Diamond

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — On Friday, the UTSA softball team fell 9-0 at the hands of Kansas on Day Two of the Texas A&M Invitational at Davis Diamond.

The Roadrunners (2-11, 0-0 The American) were bested by the Jayhawks (6-5-1, 0-0 Big 12) via the run rule as senior Jamie Gilbert (1-4) tossed three strikeouts in the effort, while Katie Brooks (5-0) secured the win for Kansas. Despite the result, junior Jaylen Prichard performed well at the dish, going 2-for-2 with a walk.

Kansas put a crooked number in the bottom of the first, stringing together multiple doubles to take a 2-0 advantage.

Looking to reply, Prichard smacked a one-out base hit down the left field line and advanced to second on a groundout. Senior Taylor Jensen walked, and junior Sophie Campbell reached base on a Jayhawk miscue, loading up the bases. Brooks, however, clamped down, twirling a strikeout to escape the inning unscathed.

In the bottom of the frame, the Jayhawks doubled their lead, first scoring a run after logging a leadoff single and a triple. A two-bagger followed for a 4-0 Kansas lead at the conclusion of the inning.

The Jayhawks scored one more in the fourth on a bunt single and added four to their total in the fifth, halting the contest early.

The ‘Runners will remain in Aggieland, next facing St. Thomas (Minn.) on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Davis Diamond.
