SAN ANTONIO — On Monday, the American Athletic Conference released its latest batch of weekly awards, with UTSA sweeping the categories as senior Jordyn Jenkins was named the league's Player of the Week and newcomer Aysia Proctor the Freshman of the Week.
Jenkins was incredible for UTSA, averaging 20 ppg and 5.5 rpg against two of The American's top teams in Tulsa and North Texas. She first scored 11 points and snagged seven boards against the Golden Hurricane before exploding for 29 points and four rebounds in just 24 minutes at UNT. Jenkins also swiped four steals and swatted two shots across the contests.
This marks Jenkins' first time receiving the accolade this season and the fifth time overall, after previously earning the Conference-USA edition.
For the third occasion this season, Proctor has earned the Freshman of the Week accolade, tying Mikayla Woods, who accomplished the feat in C-USA, for the most of any UTSA women's basketball player.
She started by scoring 10 points and collecting seven rebounds on the road in Tulsa, Oklahoma, before dropping 16 points and four three-pointers against the Mean Green. Proctor averaged 13.0 ppg, 4.0 RPG, and recorded a steal on the week.
On Thursday, Jenkins and Proctor will be back in action as they host Temple with a 6:30 p.m. tipoff at the squad's annual Black History Month game.
