UTSA set to face first-place North Texas at The Super Pit

The Roadrunners and Mean Green will battle at 2 p.m. on Sunday

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women's basketball team is set to face a first-place North Texas squad in American Athletic Conference action on Sunday, with a 2 p.m. tipoff at The Super Pit in Denton, Texas.

The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+, with Kyle Youmans providing play-by-play alongside Brian Burton. Neal Raphael will deliver the radio call in the greater San Antonio area on The Bull 93.3 FM and worldwide on the iHeartRadio app

The Roadrunners (12-11, 6-6 The American) are coming off a tough loss at the hands of Tulsa, which saw the Golden Hurricane work a 74-70 victory that came despite five Roadrunners scoring in double-figures for the first time since Feb. 2, 2023.

Sophomore Sidney Love paced the squad, dropping 16, while senior Kyra White logged 15. Freshman Idara Udo and senior Jordyn Jenkins each scored 11, as Jenkins collected seven rebounds across 15 minutes of action. Rounding things out, newcomer Aysia Proctor tallied 10 points and tied Jenkins for the team lead with seven boards. Additionally, sophomore Maya Linton delivered a solid shift on defense, swiping a career-high six steals.

UTSA continues to lead the AAC in a slew of statistics, including on the glass, where they own a plus-11.0 rebounds margin that sits seventh across the NCAA. 46.9 rebounds per game rank sixth on the national leader board, with 16.5 offensive boards slotting them eighth, and 29.4 defensive rebounds rank 17th. The Roadrunners also top The American and rank inside the top 30 nationally with 4.7 blocks per game and a 36.8% field goal defense.

Individually, redshirt junior Elyssa Coleman has swatted 34 shots on the year for the second-most in the league, while White sits second in assists per game with 4.9 and in minutes, playing 34.8. White's 1.55 assist/turnover ratio slots her fifth, and Udo's 3.7 offensive rebounds place her fourth on the AAC leader board.

The Mean Green (19-5, 9-3 The American) have been the league's best as of late and are coming off back-to-back wins over SMU and Florida Atlantic. UTSA, however, got the better of UNT in their last matchup, when an Udo double-doubled helped the 'Runners to a 75-65 overtime victory on Jan. 31, 2024.

Udo scored 14 points and secured 12 rebounds across the contest, and Coleman was not far behind with nine points, nine rebounds, and four blocks. UTSA's defense made the difference, as the 'Runners held the Mean Green to a 29% shooting clip that sat 18% under their seasonal average.

UNT represents the conference leader in field goal percentage at 46.6%, a figure that ranks 21st in the NCAA. 23.5 free throw attempts are the seventh-most in the country, and a 26.3% three-point defense is 17th as well. The Mean Green outscore their opponents by 12.5 points to lead The American, and 78.0 points per game also top the league.

A significant reason for UNT's success, Tamisha Lampkin is the fifth-most efficient shooter in the country, sinking shots at a 64.5% clip. She also represents the Mean Green's top rebounder, pulling down 7.8 rpg, while DesiRay Kernal is not far behind with 7.6 rpg. Kernal paces the squad with 15.6 ppg, as Lamkin and Dyani Robinson join her in the double-digit scoring club, with Lampkin logging 15.5 and Robinson 11.0.
