LAS VEGAS — The UTSA women’s tennis team continued the best start under sixth-year head coach Ki Kroll on Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex, rolling past Kansas City, 4-0, to extend its season-opening winning streak to six matches.
The Roadrunners won for the third time in four all-time meetings with the Roos (1-3) to improve to 6-0 on the season.
UTSA grabbed the early 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point. Magda Tuells and Vittoria Baccino teamed up to race past Tuana Tinaztepe and Eva Kresovic, 6-1, at the No. 3 spot. Aleksandra Zlatarova and Cassie McLay then clinched the point with a 6-3 triumph over Joana Miralles Cardona and Maria Bylina on court No. 1. Both doubles tandems ran their season record to 4-0 with the victories, while Ekua Youri and Fatima Gutierrez held a 5-4 advantage at the second spot before the point was decided.
The Roadrunners made quick work of Kansas City in singles play. Zlatarova improved to 4-1 on the year with a decisive 6-0, 6-1 decision over Catherine Chrobak at the top of the lineup. Youri then gave UTSA a 3-0 lead after downing Anastassiya Timofeyeva, 6-1, 6-0 at the fifth spot, pushing her season record to 5-1. McLay clinched the match with a comfortable 6-1, 6-1 victory on the fourth court.
The Roadrunners will return to action at noon CT on Saturday against UNLV.
