IRVING, Texas — The 2024 American Athletic Conference Softball Preseason Coaches’ Poll was officially announced by the league on Tuesday. UTSA is expected to finish 10th under the director of first-year head coach Vann Stuedeman.
The 2023 regular-season champions, Wichita State, were selected to repeat, scoring 80 points and garnering eight first-place votes after a 44-12 campaign that saw their season conclude at the NCAA Stillwater Regional.
Also receiving first-place votes, Charlotte was slotted second with 70 points and North Texas third with 66. The 49ers are coming off a season featuring a 35-23 record and an NCAA Durham Regional appearance.
Meanwhile, UNT went 35-22 and saw their year conclude with an extra-innings loss in the C-USA title game.
Scoring 55 points, South Florida was picked fourth, and Florida Atlantic was fifth with 47. UAB was selected sixth, boasting 40 points, and Tulsa was not far behind in seventh with 37.
East Carolina was slotted eighth, scoring 29, and Memphis was ninth with 14. Rounding things out, UTSA was picked 10th, receiving 12 points in the poll.
The Roadrunners will officially begin their season on Thursday, Feb. 8, as they compete in the Texas State Tournament before kick-starting conference play on Friday, Mar. 8, against UAB.
