'Runners to host Miners on Family Day

UTSA will meet UTEP on Sunday at the Convocation Center

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women's basketball team is set to meet UTEP on Sunday, with a noon tipoff inside the Convocation Center. Additionally, the 'Runners are hosting Family Day, with festivities including face painting, a 60-foot obstacle course, and more beginning at 10:30 a.m. outside the Convo.

The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+, with Karl Schoening providing play-by-play alongside Sophia Ramos. Neal Raphael will deliver the radio call in the greater San Antonio area on The Bull 93.3 FM and worldwide on the iHeartRadio app

The Roadrunners (4-3, 0-0 AAC) suffered an overtime defeat at the hands of Texas State last time out, despite an impressive performance by senior Elyssa Coleman, who finished one rebound shy of the double-double. She tied sophomore Sidney Love and classmate Siena Guttadauro with a team-high 11 points, as Love went 5-for-10 from the field, and Guttadauro nailed three triples.

Just behind Coleman, freshman Aysia Proctor and sophomore Cheyenne Rowe each hauled in seven boards, while newcomer Idara Udo logged six and sophomore Maya Linton five.

UTSA has now climbed into sixth on the national blocks per game leader board, boasting 6.7 bpg. Coleman heavily aided that figure, with 16 swats leading the American Athletic Conference and ranking 21st across the NCAA. Not far behind, Udo ranks third in the American with 12 blocks and senior Kyra White sixth, logging 10. Additionally, White maintains the most minutes per game in the league, playing an average of 36 each time she steps onto the floor.

The 'Runners also top the AAC in rebounds per game (46.4), rebound margin (11.1), and defensive rebounds per game (30.9).

Meanwhile, the Miners (4-4, 0-0 C-USA) are an even .500 of the season, picking up a victory over North Alabama and falling to Colorado State recently.

Jane Asinde has been dominant, ranking ninth in the NCAA with four double-doubles on the year. She leads Conference USA in rebounds, averaging 10.4 rpg, and in points with 16.9 ppg. Also topping the league, Erin Wilson excels at getting to the charity stripe, with 45 free throw attempts across the 2023-24 campaign. Wilson sits second on the team, scoring 12.3 ppg, converting shots at a 42.3% clip while hauling in 8.9 rpg. Delma Zita tops the squad in both steals and assists, with a total of 13 swipes and 30 helpers.

As a team, UTEP shoots 40.4% from the field, including 33.3% from beyond the arc, while boasting a 5.5 rebound margin that slots them second in C-USA.
