UTSA track announces signing of Brina Likar

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox has announced the signing of internationally-ranked Slovenian national champion long jumper Brina Likar to join the Roadrunners for the 2024-25 season.

"Brina Likar brings another world-class talent to our lineup with a significant amount of success on the international stage,” Fox said. “She was ranked the No. 1 U18 long jumper in the world in 2022 and she will come in and make a huge impact right away on the conference and national scene. She will arrive with a huge upside, and we can’t wait to help her reach her academic and athletic goals as a Roadrunner.”

A quickly rising star on the international scene in the jumps, Likar comes to San Antonio out of Golnik, Slovenia. In 2022, Likar reached the world’s top U18 ranking in the long jump and third in the world in U20 in 2023, finishing with the silver medal while representing the Slovenian National Team at the 2022 European U18 Championships in Jerusalem on a long jump mark of 6.30m (20-8). A month prior, Likar achieved a leap of 6.54m (21-5.5) in Kranj, Slovenia at the Atletski miting Kranj, taking first place in the event. As a two-time Outdoor National Champion, Likar captured gold in the long jump at the Slovenian 2022 U18 Championships and 2023 Slovenian U23 Championships, in addition to first-place performances at the 2022 European Athletics U18 Championships and 2022 Balkan U18 Championships. She’s also the owner of two National Indoor Championships in the long jump in 2021 and 2022.

Likar is also a capable high jumper and multi-events performer, winning the 2022 Slovenian U20/U18 Indoor Combined Events Championships pentathlon with a total of 3,625 points, including an event-winning 1.68m (5-6), while also placing second in the individual event at the meet with a jump of 1.72m (5-7.75).
