Avdeyev announces signing of Markovic for 2024 season

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA men’s tennis fifth-year head coach Sergey Avdeyev announced on Tuesday that the Roadrunners have signed Aleksa Markovic to the roster as a mid-year addition to the 2024 roster.

Formerly ranked No. 2 in Serbia, Markovic started out at Tennessee Tech. Back in Serbia, Markovic reached the singles semifinal of the National Cup of Serbia and also the doubles semifinal at the Serbian National Championships. He’s twice captured a Regional Championship, reached the singles finals of the Masters of Vojvodina and finals at Tennis Europe Minsk. Markovic also earned the opportunity to compete at IMG Academy Florida’s prestigious Eddie Herr International Junior Championships.

“We are very excited to welcome a new member to our team,” Avdeyev said. “The first time I saw Aleksa hit, I was very excited about his form and his body strength. He is a very talented player and has all tools to develop into a top college player. We are thrilled to get to work with him this January.”

UTSA is coming off one of the best seasons in program history and a 2023 NCAA postseason appearance. Roadrunners will be back in competition in mid-January as the program enters its inaugural season in the American Athletic Conference. The full schedule will be announced soon.
