Following free exhibitions against Trinity (Oct. 24) and McMurry (Oct. 30), the men’s basketball team opens its 2023-24 schedule with the season opener against Western Illinois on Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. The Roadrunners men’s program will host 16 games at the Convocation Center, including nine games as part of the inaugural season of American Athletic Conference competition. The Roadrunners will welcome Jacksonville State and cross-town foe UIW to the Convo, Nov. 24-26, for the Roadrunner/Cardinal Classic as well. UTSA will open AAC play on Jan. 2 in a nationally-televised game against UAB.
Entering the eighth season under head coach Steve Henson, the Roadrunners are looking to bounce back from a 10-22 record in 2022-23. Bringing plenty of new faces to the court at the Convo, UTSA’s 2023-24 roster features 13 new players hailing from nine different states to don the Blue and Orange this season - including six NCAA DI transfers, one NCAA DII transfer, four junior college transfers, one high school freshman and another familiar face returning to San Antonio after a year in another program.
The women's basketball program will first welcome St. Mary's into the Convocation Center with an exhibition matchup set for Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m., ahead of the true home opener that kicks off a 14-game home slate at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 10, against New Mexico State. Saturday, Jan. 6, will feature the program's first home American Athletic Conference contest, with tipoff set for 2 p.m. versus Wichita State. The Roadrunners’ first AAC schedule will feature nine home contests against league opponents.
Head coach Karen Aston is back for her third season at the helm of the women's basketball program, boasting a squad that returns 10 Roadrunners, including five starters in Kyra White, Jordyn Jenkins, Elyssa Coleman, Sidney Love, and Hailey Atwood.
The 'Runners reached the semifinals of the Conference USA Tournament in a season that saw Jenkins take home C-USA Player of the Year honors, along with C-USA Newcomer of the Year and First-Team All-Conference accolades. A slew of Roadrunners joined Jenkins in claiming postseason awards as Coleman was named to the C-USA All-Defensive team, Love to the league's all-freshman team, and White to the Dave Campbell Texas Basketball All-Texas team. Additionally, Atwood was named the C-USA Scholar Athlete of the Year.
