SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA Athletics Department is taking community support to a new level with its goal of donating 5,000 football tickets to military families through the “Tickets for Troops” program.
UTSA is well on its way to achieving that goal thanks to the support of Harvey Najim, Brad Beldon, and Bill and Sid Greehey. Their generosity is just one example of the strong fan support that UTSA Football is experiencing in the 2023 campaign.
Through four home games this season, the Roadrunners are on pace for the second-best average attendance in the program’s history. An average of 30,729 fans have passed through the Alamodome turnstiles this season, giving UTSA the fourth-best attendance in the American Athletic Conference and its best average since welcoming 35,521 fans during the program’s inaugural 2011 campaign.
The “Tickets for Troops” program is the embodiment of UTSA Athletics’ commitment to being a positive force in the community. By giving back on a significant scale within Military City USA, it demonstrates a dedication that extends beyond success on the field to supporting those who serve. For just $10 apiece, fans can purchase “Tickets for Troops” that UTSA will then donate to Fort Sam Houston, Lackland AFB, Randolph AFB and local veteran organizations to attend the Nov. 11 Military Appreciation game against Rice.
“I know UTSA is proud of all of its faculty, staff and students who have served this country in the military,” Najim said. “As an Army veteran, I am honored to recognize those who are stationed in our community and the many military veterans who have chosen to make San Antonio their home. I encourage all UTSA fans to join me in giving back to our military community.”
