HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The UTSA women’s tennis team found a lot of success in singles action at the Bearkat Invitational on Oct. 27-29.
DOUBLES RESULTS
The duo of Vittoria Baccino and Aleksandra Zlatarova battled against Sam Houston’s Paula Cerda and Sahithi Vutukuru but fell in the tiebreaker, 7-6 (1). Cassie McLay and Magda Tuells defeated defeated the Bearkats’ India Fenieys and Aaliyah Hohmann by 6-3.
Baccino and Zlatarova defeated Lamar’s Megan Do and Leah Kuruvilla by a score of 6-4. McLay and Tuells shut out the Cardinals’ Nouray Metwally and Natalia Turczuk, 6-0. Eva Beyebach and Ekua Youri fell to Lamar’s Elena Rubio and Jayci Wong, 3-6.
Against Northwestern State, Zlatarova and Baccino fell to Sofi Garcia and Sara Erenda by 2-6. McLay and Tuells defeated the Lady Demons’ Tjasa Klevisar and Maria Farina by 6-2. Beyebach and Youri fell to Honoka Umeda and Ayu Ishibashi, 2-6.
SINGLES RESULTS
The Roadrunners won all six singles matches against Sam Houston. Baccino defeated Paula Cerda by sets of 6-0 and 7-6 (5). Zlatarova won her match over Sahithi Vutukuru (7-6, 2-6, 10-7). McLay took down India Fenieys in three sets of 6-4, 6-7 (2) and 10-6. Tuells defeated Linn Svaerd by 6-2 and 6-1. Youri overcame Vianne Schwab by two sets of 6-4. Beyebach battled through three sets and ultimately took down Roberta Sechi (6-2, 1-6, 10-7).
UTSA also swept Lamar in singles play. Baccino took down Leah Kuruvilla by sets of 6-4 and 6-2. Zlatarova beat Nourday Metwally (6-0, 6-1). McLay defeated Megan Do in three sets (4-6, 6-1, 7-4). Tuells defeated Elena Rubio by both sets of 6-2. Ekua Youri beat Marika Mueller by set scores of 6-2 and 6-3. Eva Beyebach defeated Natalia Turczuk in three sets of 2-6, 6-3 and 7-3.
The Roadrunners split points with Northwestern State in singles. Baccino fell to Tjasa Klevisar by two sets of 6-2. Zlatarova beat Maria Farina in three sets (2-6, 6-1, 10-6). McLay took down Sofi Garcia in three sets of 6-3, 0-6 and 10-3. Tuells defeated Sara Erenda. Ekua Youri fell to Ayu Ishibashi by default. Eva Beyebach fell to Honoku Umeda in two sets of 7-6 (3) and 6-3.
