SAN ANTONIO – UTSA Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox announced on Friday, October 20, that the Roadrunners have added sprinter Oliver Swinney to the 2023-24 Roadrunners roster.
"Oliver Swinney will be a solid addition to our short sprints and we look for him to jump right in as a contributor for the Roadrunners,” Fox said. “He’s shown he can continuously cut times and we’re looking forward to developing his technique and seeing what he can bring to our squad this season and down the road.”
Hailing from Balleymoney, Northern Ireland, Swinney reached a top 60m time of 6.70 in February 2023 in earning second place at the Ireland National Senior Indoor Championships – placing him fourth on the Irish All-Time List. While slicing off .29 hundredths of a second this season while runner for Speed Development Project/Ireland under coach Adam McMullen, Swinney earned 60m victories at the Irish U23 Indoor Championships and UUJ Indoor Sprints & Hurdles. Moving into the No. 2 spot in the Irish Top 100, Swinney reached 10.36 in the 100m Outdoor, stateside at Texas Tech’s Corky/Crowfoot Shootout, representing Fast Twitch Athletics. Ranging to the 200m, he also hit a 21.33 finish at the meet in Lubbock.
While competing for SDPI he attended school at Dominican College, Portstewart, earning gold at the 2022 Irish Schools Track and Field Championships in the 100m with a time of 10.59.
Swinney was selected to represent Ireland as a 100m competitor in the 2022 World Athletics U20 championships in Cali, Colombia. He was also named to the 4x100m relay representing Ireland at the 2023 European Championships in Chorzów.
