SAN ANTONIO – UTSA Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox announced on Monday, October 2, that the Roadrunners have added transfer sprinter Nayanna Dubarry-Gay to the program’s 2023-24 roster.

Joining her twin sister, Kiah, on the Roadrunners squad, after the pair came from Romford, England and got their collegiate start at Texas Tech for the past three seasons, Dubarry-Gay attended The Bridge Academy before coming to the United States. Dubarry-Gay was the lead leg of the 2022 Texas Tech 4x400m relay that finished second at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships and went on to advance through the NCAA West Regional with an eighth-place finish and garner a 20th-place finish at the NCAA Championships.

"Nayanna Dubarry-Gay brings us more depth in the longer sprints and provides another competitor that is highly experienced on the world stage.” Fox said. "We’re looking forward to pushing her development further and seeing what her talent can bring to the UTSA team.”

In addition to the relay work, Nayanna competed in the 200m and 400m individually for the Red Raiders over the last three seasons, finishing ninth in the 400m at the 2023 Big 12 Outdoor Championships and qualifying for the NCAA West Preliminary Round. In 2022, she also reached the NCAA Regional in the 400m after finishing seventh at the Big 12 Championships – earning a personal best of 53.04 in the preliminary. Before arriving in Texas, she helped Great Britain’s 4x400m relay to the 2019 European U20 Championships title in Borås, Sweden.

Competing back home under coach Alf Vickers, Dubarry-Gay appeared for the Victoria Park & Tower Hamlets since late 2012 in sprints and long jump. She started to come into her own with a near-completely victorious 2014 slate, going on to win the 2016 London U15 Games and ESAA English Schools' Championships in the 60m Indoor. In 2018, Dubarry-Gay won titles in the 100m Outdoor at the SIAB International, Middlesex County Championships, New Balance ESAA English Schools' Championships – going on to notch wins in the 400m Outdoor at the 2020 England Athletics Championships and South of England U20 Championships.

To date, Dubarry-Gay has registered personal bests in the 200m at 23.80 at the 2023 Corky/Crowfoot Shootout and 53.04 in the 400m to advance to the 2022 Big 12 Outdoor Championships final.

In the UK rankings, Dubarry-Gay reached as high as No. 4 in the U23 200m Indoor and is currently ranked No. 8 in the U23 200m Outdoor.  In 2020, Dubarry-Gay topped the UK U20 standings in the 400m Indoor and is No. 3 in the 2023 standings – reaching No. 4 in the U23 400m Outdoor in 2023 as well.
