ABILENE, Texas – The UTSA women’s tennis team is set to open up the fall season at the ACU Invite hosted by Abilene Christian in Abilene, Texas, on Sept. 29-Oct. 1.
Main draw singles will be best of three tiebreak sets. Consolation will be two out of three with a 10-point tiebreak for the third. Doubles will be eight game prosets with a seven-point tiebreaker at 8-8. Play will start at 9 a.m. (CT) each morning with doubles first. Friday will be 2 doubles, 1 singles, while Saturday will be 1 doubles, 1 singles, and Sunday will be the last round of singles.
In doubles action, newcomers Vittoria Baccino and Cassie McLay will team up against Tarleton’s Noelia Lorca and Elsa Boisson in flight A of doubles draws. In flight B, Magda Tuells and newcomer Ekua Youri will face New Mexico State’s duo of Dora Kurdi and Daniela Herrera.
The first round of singles action is set to start at 11:45 a.m. on Friday after the completion of doubles play. In flight A, freshman Baccino is set to face New Mexico State’s Anna Pinaieva and Cincinnati transfer McLay will take on Texas Tech’s Jermine Sherif. Flight B will see freshman Youri taking on Abilene Christian’s Maryjoe Crisologo. Returnee Tuells is set to face New Mexico State’s Natsuki Nishimura in flight C to round out the Roadrunner’s singles draws.
Next, the Roadrunners will compete in Lamar’s Joe Pyburn Memorial Tournament at Thompson Family Tennis Center on Oct. 7-8.
