Carreon maintains individual lead, Roadrunners in sixth after two rounds of Badger Invitational

MADISON, Wis. — Camryn Carreon maintained the individual lead with another sub-70 scorecard and the UTSA women’s golf team is in a tie for sixth place after two rounds of the Badger Invitational, which continued Monday at University Ridge Golf Course (par 72/6,248 yards).

Carreon entered the second day with a two-shot lead and the senior all-conference performer from San Antonio kept that advantage after posting a 3-under-par 69 that brought her 36-hole total to 7-under 137, ahead of Indiana’s Chloe Johnson (73-66—139) and New Mexico State’s Emma Bunch (75-66—141) in the 87-person field.

UTSA has a share of sixth place with Indiana at 13-over 589 in the 15-team race. The Roadrunners registered a three-stroke improvement from their opening round with a 293 on Monday, and they are one shot ahead of Iowa and only one stroke behind Colorado State with 18 holes left to play.

After opening with a 4-under 68 on Sunday, Carreon posted her fourth consecutive sub-70 round on the strength of four birdies. The 2023 NCAA San Antonio Regional champion started her day with a birdie on the 376-yard, par-4 first and then reeled off nine pars in a row. She then posted birdies on three straight holes to move to 4-under before settling for a bogey and four pars down the stretch.

Olivia Williams is tied for 23rd at 3-over 147 after turning in a 2-over 74 on Monday. The sophomore from England recorded 15 pars and a birdie on the 358-yard, par-4 14th hole in the second round.

Daniela Abonce bounced back from a 79 in the first round with a 72 that featured four birdies. The sophomore out of Veracruz, Mexico, jumped into a tie for 42nd at 7-over 151 with her even-par scorecard.

Morgan Ellison has a share of 74th after posting a 78 for the second straight round, while Maria Bastarrica is in 82nd (77-83—160).

South Florida moved atop the team leaderboard at 1-over par, followed by Delaware (+2), Wisconsin (+7) and New Mexico State (+8).

The final round is scheduled for Tuesday.
