UTSA adds Geltmeier, Lopez and Reinkensmeier to 2023 roster

SAN ANTONIO – Heading into the final summer stretch before making camp for the 2023 season, the UTSA soccer roster just got a little bigger and more formidable for the Roadrunners' first season in the American Athletic Conference, as sixth-year head coach Derek Pittman announces the signing of three more Roadrunners on July 28 – Maci Geltmeier, Haley Lopez and Thandie Reinkensmeier.

"Our staff is extremely excited to announce the addition of these three top players to our 2023 roster," Pittman said. "Maci, Haley and Thandie fit our high-character, highly competitive environment within UTSA Soccer. All three of these young women are very hard-working individuals that will continue to raise the standard within our locker room. We are looking forward to their contributions on and off the field over the next couple of years."

Maci Geltmeier
Position: Forward/Outside Back
Hometown: Cleburne, Texas
High School: Cleburne HS
Previous School: Louisiana Tech

Geltmeier joins the Roadrunners in pursuit of her Master's degree after playing three seasons at Louisiana Tech and graduating with her degree in Marketing. She played in 51 games with 28 starts and comes to San Antonio with 2,640 minutes of experience. A three-time Conference USA Commissioners Academic Medalist and Honor Roll member, she was a 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honoree and named to the C-USA All-Academic first team. As a forward in Ruston, Geltmeier logged 18 points for the Lady Techsters, including seven (7) goals and four (4) assists with 27 shots on goal and a .458 SOG%. Led LA Tech in shots last year with 21. In high school, Geltmeier was an All-District and All-Johnson County performer at Cleburne High School and played club for FC Dallas.

Pittman on Maci Geltmeier
"Maci is an extremely fit, hardworking, talented wide player that will be a threat for opposing teams to deal with on a regular basis. She has the experience and ability to compete for playing time quickly within our style of play. We have watched her for several years at LA Tech and always felt she was a player that was underused with her abilities. She is good 1v1 on the dribble and can whip in a quality ball off the service. On top of setting up other players, she also has the composure to score goals in and around the 18-yard box. We are excited to add her to our attacking group."

Haley Lopez
Position: Center Back
Hometown: Rowlett, Texas
High School: Rowlett HS
Previous School: Seminole State College

Lopez arrives in San Antonio from Seminole State College in Oklahoma, where she started the last 20-of-21 games as a defender and helped the 2022 Trojans to both the NJCAA Region 2 regular season championship and the Region 2 tournament title, finishing the year with an 18-4 record and an appearance in the NJCAA National Soccer Championships. Lopez earned a spot on both the Regional Tournament Team and the All-Region 2 first team. She attended Rowlett High School on the east side of the Dallas Metroplex. Her team went 17-2-3 in her junior season before the year was cut short in spring 2020. Her senior squad was 13-10-1, but finished 12-3 in district and advanced to the second round of the UIL 6A Regional Playoffs. She played club for Solar SC and Dallas Texans.

Pittman on Haley Lopez
"After watching Haley compete against our team this past spring for Seminole State, we immediately felt she possessed the ability to compete for time as a central defender. She is composed on the ball, tough in a tackle and does well organizing her teammates around her to shut opposing teams attacking players down. Haley helped lead Seminole to back-to-back trips to the NJCAA Championship Tournament and has played at a high level in Solar SC and Texans in the Dallas area. She is a tough competitor and knows what it takes to battle at a high level. She will add strength and toughness to our defenders."

Thandie Reinkensmeier
Position: Forward
Hometown: Bad Oeynhausen, Germany
High School: Europaschule Bad Oeynhausen
Previous School: Bielefeld University

The final signee for the 2023 class, Reinkensmeier comes to UTSA all the way from Bad Oeynhausen, Germany. She attended Europaschule Bad Oeynhausen and later Bielefeld University. While at school, Reinkensmeier played club soccer last year for FSV Gütersloh in Regionalliga, under the guidance of coach Mark-Oliver Stricker. Regionalliga is the third-highest women's soccer league in Germany. With FSV last season, she scored five goals with four assists. Before that, she spent three years with SV Kutenhausen-Todtenhausen in Westfalenliga and contributed to the squad's success in the district cup, scoring 21 goals with 13 assists over the two-year stretch from 2020-21. She also played three years of youth club with Herforder SV youth of Regionalliga, playing for the regional cup in her final year. Last season, Reinkensmeier had the opportunity to play test games against 2nd Bundesliga professional teams. She grew up a multi-sport athlete, with competition ranging from swimming to gymnastics, and even equestrian, before she set her solo focus on soccer.

Pittman on Thandie Reinkensmeier
"We are absolutely elated to add a player of Thandie's talents to our roster for this fall. She has played at a high level in Germany and has a very intelligent mind for the game. Her movement and runs as an attacker will cause defenses issues and open up space for herself and others. She has versatility to play out wide or come inside and play against the best center backs in our league. Thandie's size, strength and speed will be very dangerous in our style of play. Not only can she score goals, but she is an incredible teammate on and off the field. She will fit in very well with our team and we look forward to adding a player of her talent in our attack."
