HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. — UTSA signee and incoming freshman Brock Blais qualified for the U.S. Amateur in thrilling fashion on Wednesday at Mission Inn Resort & Club's El Campeón course.
Blais, who signed last fall to join the Roadrunners, holed out his second shot from the fairway for an eagle-two on the fourth hole of a playoff to secure the third and final automatic qualifying spot out of the qualifier.
A native of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, Blais opened the 36-hole tournament on Tuesday with a 3-under-par 69 that featured four birdies. He then carded a 2-under 70 that included six birdies on Wednesday to secure a spot in a three-man playoff for the final qualifying spot, which he ended up earning after his eagle on the fourth hole.
