Carreon wins U.S. Women’s Amateur qualifier

HOUSTON — UTSA senior Camryn Carreon won a U.S. Women's Amateur Qualifier on Wednesday at Gus Wortham Golf Course, earning a spot in the 2023 U.S. Women's Amateur next month in Los Angeles.

Carreon carded a 5-under-par 66 on the 6,129-yard, par-71 layout to win the tournament by one shot and claim one of five qualifying berths.

Carreon birdied four of her first six holes against only one bogey to get to 3-under par, closing out the front nine with a 33. She then added three more birdies and just one bogey on the back in posting a 66, good for a one-stroke victory ahead of Alexa Saldana.

The 2023 NCAA San Antonio Regional medalist and a two-time NCAA Championships individual qualifier will now travel to the West Coast to play in the U.S. Women's Amateur, which is set for Aug 7-13 at Bel-Air Country Club.
