UTSA volleyball unveils 2023 schedule

SAN ANTONIO —On Monday, head coach Carol Price-Torok officially unveiled the 2023 volleyball schedule, with UTSA set to host a pair of tournaments en route to its inaugural season in the American Athletic Conference.

"We're really excited to kick off the 2023 season," said coach Price-Torok. Our incredibly strong nonconference schedule will challenge us early and prepare the team for a high-level conference like The American. We can't wait to get started and see a packed Convo!"

Prior to the start of the season, UTSA will showcase an intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 12, at 2 p.m. inside the Convocation Center, before testing its mettle in a road exhibition against Texas State at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19.    

The Roadrunners will officially begin their second season under Price-Torok when they host the UTSA Invitational on Friday-Saturday, Aug. 25-26. The 'Runners will face Texas Southern at 10 a.m. and Missouri State at 7 p.m. on the opening day before closing the event against Texas A&M-Commerce at 2 p.m. on the following day.

UTSA will welcome three teams to the Convo for the Roadrunner Classic on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 1-2. The Roadrunners and Lamar will lead off the tournament at 10 a.m. UTSA will then face Delaware at 7 p.m. Friday and Tarleton at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Shortly after, the squad will visit Buies Creek, North Carolina, as they compete in the Fairfield Inn and Suites Dunn Campbell Invitational spanning Friday-Saturday, Sep. 8-9. They'll meet Georgia Southern at noon, ahead of a 6 p.m. matchup with host school Campbell on Day One, before battling Norfolk State at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. 

The Roadrunners then return to the Alamo City to wrap up nonconference play as they attend the UIW Cardinal Classic, where they'll meet UIW at the McDermott Center on Thursday, Sep. 14 at 6:30 p.m., and Oral Roberts the following day at 2 p.m. 

The conference slate will see 19 games across 10 weeks as the Roadrunners compete in the West Division with multiple matches on the docket against UNT, Rice, SMU, Tulane, Tulsa, and Wichita State, as well as one-off contests with East Division opponents UAB, Charlotte, ECU, FAU, Memphis, South Florida, and Temple.

They'll open up play in the AAC on Wednesday, Sep. 20, in the first of 10 road contests that include matches with Rice (Sep. 29-30), North Texas (Oct. 13 and 15), Memphis (Oct. 27), Florida Atlantic (Oct. 29), Wichita State (Nov. 10-11), and UAB (Nov. 17). 

UTSA will welcome five conference foes into the Convocation Center with The American home opener set for 6 p.m. on Friday, Sep. 23, in the first of two matches against SMU that weekend before hosting South Florida (Oct. 6) and Temple (Oct. 8). The Roadrunners will then take on Tulane (Oct. 20-21) and Tulsa (Nov. 3-4) before closing out the regular season against East Carolina (Nov. 22).
