Roadrunners add Chandler Cuthrell for next season

SAN ANTONIO – The Roadrunners have added another forward to the lineup for the 2023-24 men's basketball season, as head coach Steve Henson announced on Friday, June 2, the addition of transfer Chandler Cuthrell for next season.

A 6-foot-7, 210-pound forward hailing from Baltimore, Md., Cuthrell will join the Roadrunners after two seasons at Odessa College under coach Kris "Bucket" Baumann, helping the Wranglers to a 30-4 record in 2022-23, a Western Junior College Athletic Conference title and an appearance in the NJCAA DI National Quarterfinals. Odessa ranked third in the final 2022-23 NJCAA DI rankings. Last season at OC, he played in 34 games and collected 7.2 points and 3.0 rebounds in just 13.7 minutes per game. He also shot 48.8 percent from the floor and 40.8 percent from three – averaging 21.0 points per 40 minutes. Cuthrell also played in 21 games with 11 starts for the Wranglers in his rookie season at Odessa.

"Chandler is an important addition to our program," Henson said. "He is an ideal forward in our system. He can stretch the floor with his three-point shooting and will fit in perfectly with our defensive system. Coach Baumann at Odessa does a terrific job and Chandler is ready to come in and play an important role."

Before moving to West Texas, Cuthrell wrapped up the final two years of his high school career at Baltimore City College, where he averaged 10 points and six rebounds, following two seasons at Baltimore's Kenwood High School. His father, Eric Cuthrell is a Hall of Famer from his playing days as a forward at UNC Greensboro. The elder Cuthrell helped UNCG to back-to-back conference titles, a Big South Conference Tournament championship and subsequent NCAA Tournament berth in 1996.
