SAN ANTONIO – On the heels of her third consecutive stellar season at shortstop for the Roadrunners, UTSA junior shortstop Kat Ibarra has been named to the Conference USA All-Conference Second Team – notching her third consecutive season with postseason league accolades.
As a C-USA second-team honoree, the Katy, Texas junior was a shining star at shortstop and as the leadoff batter for the Roadrunners in 2023 – one of the most consistent performers not just for UTSA but among Conference USA players. Ibarra led the Roadrunners in 12 offensive categories, including batting average (.368), OPS (1.020), at-bats (163), runs (34), hits (60), doubles (14), triples (4), total bases (94), walks (22), slugging percentage (.577), on-base percentage (.443) and steals (6). In addition, Ibarra had four (4) home runs, led the team with 74 assists, was fourth with 92 putouts and paced the team in double plays (10) and tags applied to caught stealing plays (8).
One of only two UTSA players to start every game this season, Ibarra also ranked among the top five of Conference USA players in three statistical categories, tying for the lead in triples, ranking third in doubles and tying for fourth in hits. Nationally, she ranks ties for 74th in the NCAA in hits, 71st in doubles per game and 78th in triples per game.
"This is a well-deserved honor for Kat," head coach Michelle Cheatham said. "Her numbers speak for themselves but what people don't see is Kat's day-to-day hard work and dedication to her craft, which has also awarded her with being a well-known force in this conference."
Ibarra previously received 2023 Preseason All-Conference recognition, was a 2022 C-USA first-teamer and was on the 2021 C-USA All-Freshman Team. To date at UTSA, Ibarra is hitting .342 on her career with 150 hits, 97 runs and 53 RBI to her credit. In 2023, she recorded the fourth-most triples in a season at UTSA and ranks third in UTSA career triples (9). This season, she also tied for the third-most doubles in a season. She is on pace to take a spot among numerous career categories during her senior year.
In the classroom, Ibarra has also seen success with a pre-veterinary medicine focus as a Biology major named to the UTSA Dean's List one time and Honor Roll one time. She has also earned C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll accolades three times.
