DALLAS – Junior Aleksandra Zlatarova of the UTSA women's tennis squad has officially been named to the Conference USA All-Conference Singles First Team, announced the conference office on Wednesday.
This marks Zlatarova's first all-conference team accolade since she joined the Roadrunners in 2020. She is just the second UTSA student-athlete to earn first team honors, the first being Miriam Rosell Canudas twice in both the 2015 and 2017 seasons.
"I'm so happy for Aleks," head coach Ki Kroll said. "She's done a great job for us and this award was well deserved. She continues to push herself and is a big contributor to the success of our team. I'm very proud of her."
Zlatarova is a co-captain for the Roadrunners who toted a phenomenal 17-4 singles record at the No. 1 court this spring. The Burgas, Bulgaria, native went on a 10-match winning streak in which she didn't lose for over a month at the beginning of the season.
Of her 17 wins in singles, she worked quickly and effectively to win 12 of them in two sets or less. Because she made quick work of her opponents, Zlatarova often set the tone for the Roadrunners, earning the first singles point for the team in eight matches. She also performed well in clutch situations, earning match-clinching points four times throughout the season.
The JC Equelite Sport Academy product is a key reason that the Roadrunners advanced to the C-USA Quarterfinals for the first time since 2019, opening up singles play with a quick win at the top spot over her UAB opponent.
