Roadrunners to head West for NCAA West Preliminary

SAN ANTONIO — Twenty members of the UTSA track & field teams will travel to Sacramento, California, for the NCAA West Preliminary Round on Wednesday-Saturday, May 24-27, at Hornet Stadium.

Men's competition will take place on Wednesday and Friday and the women will compete on Thursday and Saturday for the right to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The top 12 finishers in each event will move on to the national meet on June 7-10 in Austin, Texas.

A dozen Roadrunners on the men's side will travel to the Sacramento State campus this week with hopes of keeping their postseason run alive, while Jack Turner and Joel McFarlane already have secured spots in the decathlon at the NCAA Outdoor.

The UTSA men will be represented in eight different events this week with Brice Chabot and Dennis Phillips slated to compete in three disciplines apiece, the 100 meters, 200m and 4x100m relay, where they will be joined by Logan Masters and Trevion McCalla.

Chabot enters the meet with the 10th-fastest time in the field in the 200m, with his school-record time of 20.44 seconds posted in the prelims of the Conference USA Outdoor Championships. Jemuel Miller will look to advance to the NCAA Championships for the second straight season in the triple jump after earning second-team All-America accolades last year. The sophomore ranks 11th in the field with a season-best mark of 16.08 meters (52-9.25).

The triple jump will feature four Roadrunners altogether, as Dylan James enters the meet armed with the 14th-best jump, a 15.98m (52-5.25), while Jacob Jenkins is 22nd (15.77m/51-9) and Gabriel Binion is 34th (15.35m/50-4.5).
