DALLAS – In the final week of the regular season, senior Taylor Smith of the UTSA baseball team had a monster six home run week to earn his first Conference USA Hitter of the Week honors, announced the conference office on Monday afternoon.
The Georgetown, Texas, native launched six home runs across four games. Against ACU on May, he went 3-for-6 with four RBI on a game-tying grand slam. Over the weekend, the Roadrunners' slugger hit five more home runs in a conference series against Louisiana Tech.
In the series opener against Louisiana Tech, Smith went 3-for-6 with five runs and four RBI, hitting a program-best three home runs in the game. This marks the sixth time a Roadrunner has reached this feat, the last time being on March 26, 2021.
In game two of the series against the Bulldogs, he once again launched multiple home runs (2) in a 3-for-4 night with three runs and two RBI. These two home runs brought his season total to 17, just one shy of the program record 18 home runs.
Throughout the season, Smith has been a force at the place as the Roadrunner's starting designated hitter. He is second on the team with a 1.102 OPS, .646 slugging percentage and .456 on-base percentage.
