WACO, Texas/SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's tennis is set for two matches to close out the regular season this weekend. The Roadrunners first head to Waco, Texas, to face Baylor on Saturday at 2 p.m., before hosting Houston on Sunday for Senior Day at 1 p.m. at the UTSA Tennis Courts.
UTSA improved to a 12-8 record after sweeping Prairie View A&M, 7-0, on March 25. Aleksandra Zlatarova (15-2) has consistently dominated at the No. 1 singles spot for the Roadrunners all season. Lexie Weir (13-6) and Magda Tuells (11-7) also both have double-digit wins, playing mostly at the second court and fourth courts, respectively. Zlatarova and Weir each have a team-high 13 wins in doubles action.
The Roadrunners are 0-2 against the Baylor Bears. The two teams last played on Jan. 20, 2020, when the Roadrunners fell to the Bears by 5-2. UTSA is 0-8 against the Houston Cougars. They last played each other on Feb. 26, 2022, when the Roadrunners fell to the Cougars by 6-1.
Baylor holds a 12-11 record after a 4-2 win over TCU on April 2. The Bears No. 1 singles player Alina Shcherbinina has an 18-6 overall record (10-4 at the top spot). Two more Bears have double-digit wins, including Anita Sahdiieva (10-8) and Isabella Harvison (12-7). Paula Baranano and Daniella Dimitrov have paired up for a 4-6 record at the No. 1 doubles spot this season.
Houston holds a 11-7 record after a 4-1 loss to No. 64 South Florida on April 3. Their No. 1 singles player Maria Dzemeshkevich has a 6-8 record. Sophie Schouten and Elena Trecheva hold a 7-4 record at the No. 1 doubles spot.
UP NEXT: The Roadrunners will head to Denton, Texas, for the Conference USA Championships on April 20-23. The seeding and bracket for the tournament will be announced at the conclusion of the regular season.
