UTSA inks Norwegian national champion Ida Breigan

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox announced Thursday that the program has signed Ida Breigan, a national champion jumper and standout sprinter from Fredrikstad, Norway.

Breigan won the long jump at the 2023 Norwegian Indoor Championship with a personal-best leap of 6.29 meters (20-7.75) in February, finishing the indoor season ranked 15th on the world junior list. She also jumped 6.21m (20-4.5) to win the U20 Tyrvinglekene meet earlier that month.

Also an accomplished sprinter, Breigan was the runner-up in the 60 meters at the 2023 Norwegian U20 Indoor Championships after speeding to a career-best time of 7.67 seconds.

"Ida Breigan is a big-time addition to our signing class, and we're excited about signing another great athlete from Norway," Fox said. "She will have an immediate impact on our program, and we can't wait to see her succeed in competition and in the classroom at UTSA."

Breigan clocked her 200m personal best of 24.09 at the 2022 Nordic Baltic U20 Championships. She turned in her top career 400m time of 56.30 at the 2022 Sommerstevnet in Oslo, Norway.

Breigan is the fourth member of the signing class, as she joins Edlin Laur and current Roadrunners Jabari Bennett and Ayumi Kobayashi
